The
DC Department of Human Resources has posted the position of Program

implements plans to strengthen data collection, data analysis and data

The District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES) was created to develop "Jobs for People and People for Jobs." DOES provides job-seekers with a number of employment opportunities through its American Job Centers.

2015 Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)
The Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)
is a locally funded initiative sponsored by the Department of
Employment Services (DOES) that provides District youth ages 14 to 21
with enriching and constructive summer work experiences through
subsidized placements in the private and government sectors. Mayor
Bowser signed the Mayor's Order 2015-037 on January 14, 2015 to rename
the program the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program in
honor of former Mayor and SYEP founder Marion Barry. Through SYEP, DOES strives to provide young people with the opportunity to: - Earn money and gain meaningful work experience;
- Learn and develop the skills, attitudes, and commitment necessary to succeed in today's world of work;
- Gain exposure to various exciting career industries; and
- Interact with dynamic working professionals in a positive work environment.
Though
SYEP is a short-term employment and training program, the goal is to
introduce our youth to employers who will positively impact their
futures. Employers in the Washington, DC metropolitan area make
this annual program possible by volunteering to serve as Host Employers
and providing structured job opportunities for youth during the summer. Program DatesThis year, SYEP will start on Monday, June 29, 2015 and will end on Friday, August 7, 2015. The

- Asian Pacific American Advocates, a national membership-driven
organization dedicated to advancing the political, social, and economic
well-being of Asian Pacific Americans (APAs), opens applications for its
2015 Spring and Summer Internship Program. As OCA continues to
celebrate the 25th Year Anniversary of its Internship Program, OCA
invites student advocates from all across the nation to apply for the
opportunity to be engaged in advocacy and professional development
through a national organization. OCA interns are placed in a
full-time job and are assigned to a variety of positions in federal
agencies, nonprofit organizations, congressional offices, and in public
affairs units of corporations in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
Placements of the interns are based on individual background, interest,
and skill level. Past program participants have gained working
experience and exposure to advocacy efforts that have allowed them to
return home and take on more active roles in their local communities. Candidates

Volunteers Needed for OAPIA Language Bank The
Mayor's Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs initiative is a
Language Bank that will connect volunteers with Asian language abilities
with District Agencies. The purpose of this Language Bank is to
supplement the efforts of Agencies in providing language services. When
and while professional services are being procured there are often
language services that need to still be addressed. The Language Bank is
one way this gap can be fulfilled. HOW IT WORKSOAPIA
will solicit and maintain a database of individuals who express
interest in providing their language skill to the District. The
individuals will self-identify their language qualifications. District
Agencies will register with OAPIA in order to have access to the
database. Once registered, they will be able to submit Jobs to OAPIA who
will send the jobs out to the list of registered volunteers. If there
is a match, OAPIA will connect the two parties and the Agency can

Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL), a national
non-profit organization consisting of a 20-member Board of Directors,
Advisory Council, and two full-time staff, announces an unpaid Public
Interest Legal Counsel position for the 2015 calendar year. CAPAL is
dedicated to building leadership and public policy knowledge within the
Asian Pacific American community. Its mission is to promote APA
interests and success in public service careers, to provide information
and education on policy issues affecting the APA community, and to serve
the APA community at large. DescriptionThe
CAPAL Public Interest Legal Counsel will work under the Board of
Directors, reporting directly to the Board Chair, to perform the
following tasks: - Ensure that CAPAL is operating in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Review legal and contractual agreements.
- Perform official filings, including filings to maintain 501(c)(3) status, in coordination with the Treasurer.
